New Driving License
If you're applying for a license for the first time, you should do so for a new one. The age requirement to apply for a new driver's license is 18. One should go to the RTO in Delhi NCR and apply for a new driver's license if they reside in that region.
In India obtaining a new driver's license involves two steps:
LEARNER'S LICENCE PROCESS IN DELHI
Applying for a learning license is the first step in getting a driving license. This application form should be sent to the relevant RTO together with any necessary supporting documentation and costs. Following this appointment, a test will be administered.
A computer test is required of the candidate on the scheduled appointment day and time. Learning licenses are given out following test success. The learning license is good for six months. A permanent driving license is the next step.
Documents required for learner’s Licence in Delhi:
- Application-cum - Physical Fitness Declaration, Form-1
- Six copies of the recent passport-size photo of the applicant.
- Request for issuance of a learner's permit Form - 2
- Self-attested copy of a residency document
- Self-attested copy of age verification
- (For a license to operate a transport vehicle) Self-attested copy of educational qualification proof; must have passed the eighth grade.
- a copy of an active, currently held driver's license for a light motor vehicle
- One year (in the case of a learner's permit for a transport vehicle) and having reached the age of 20 on the application date.
PERMANENT DRIVING LICENCE IN DELHI
The applicant may submit an application for a permanent license 30 days after the learning license was issued. Once more, the RTO must receive the application form, supporting documentation, and required RTO fees. RTO schedules a driving proficiency test appointment.
The applicant must pass the driving test on the scheduled day and time. Upon passing the test, a permanent driving permit is given out.
Documents required for permanent driving license in Delhi
- Form - 4 An efficient Learners' Permit (original)
- a copy of the applicant's most recent passport photo
- Driver's license, Forms 5, 14, and 15. (for transport vehicles Licence)
New Driving License
If your driver's license is about to expire, you can seek to get it renewed in New Delhi. In Delhi RTO, only licenses that were issued by it can be renewed.
A driver's license can be renewed up to 30 days before its expiration date. The grace period for applying for a driving license renewal is 30 days. After the grace period, there is a Rs. 1000 annual late fee.
In order to renew a driving license in Delhi, the applicant must physically appear before the RTO.
Documents Needed in Delhi to Renew a Driver's License:
- Dated driver's license
- Evidence of current address Certificate of health
- two photos in passport size
15 days are needed for the renewal of a driver's license.
